Crop Rotation Guide

Use the current HUD as the authority. Version 1.0 improved crop-rotation feedback and changed mutations and fertilizer, so older crop charts are useful hypotheses—not a substitute for the live soil result.

Read the soil before scaling the field

The official 1.0 notes confirm an overhauled crop-rotation HUD, improved mutated crops, and a fertilizer redesign. Plant a small test sequence, observe the soil indicator after each planting, and record the result in the current version before applying it to a large field.

Rotation is a planning tool: you are choosing what the next crop should do to the mound, not merely alternating two names. Keep test plots separate from production plots so a mistaken assumption does not interrupt every recipe that depends on the harvest.

Legacy community crop groups

A 2025 Steam community guide grouped Wheat, Chromaize, and Zappertwig as nitrogen crops; Polyberry, Caroot, and Honeybottle as potassic; and Rabbage and Lumbloom as phosphoric. Players reported that moving between groups could favor mutation or yield depending on the direction.

That model predates the 1.0 changes. It can provide a compact experiment plan, but this site does not present the old mutation and high-yield cycles as confirmed 1.0 formulas.

A safe rotation test

  • Use three small plots with the same starting condition.
  • Plant one candidate crop in each plot and note the live HUD change.
  • Repeat the next crop only after the first change is visible.
  • Compare normal yield, mutation result, and fertilizer use separately.
  • Date the result and retest after a farming patch.

Do not mix rotation and fertilizer evidence

Version 1.0 renamed the old mound-changing fertilizers to Mulch and introduced new fertilizers that grant bonus yield. If a legacy guide says “fertilizer changes soil type,” it may now be describing Mulch. Use the current item name when recording your test.

A good rotation guide tells you which variable changed. Test soil sequence without bonus fertilizer first; then test fertilizer yield on a known sequence. That produces an answer you can reproduce instead of a field that happened to work once.

Quick answers

What is the best crop rotation in Lightyear Frontier 1.0?+

There is no fully verified universal matrix in our evidence set. Use the live 1.0 HUD and small test plots; legacy community groups are listed only as a starting hypothesis.

Did fertilizer change in version 1.0?+

Yes. The old mound-changing fertilizers became Mulch, while new fertilizers provide bonus yield.

Are mutated crop charts from 2025 still accurate?+

Do not assume so. Version 1.0 changed crop-rotation feedback, mutated crops, and fertilizer behavior.
